I have upgraded to KDEnlive 15.12.3, but the GUI still shows 15.12.2.

Try 'apt-cache policy kdenlive' in the terminal to check what ppa was used, and what version was installed. |

Cool, thanks for the tip!
I am running 16.03.70 because of a major bug in 15.12.2 and 15.12.3. 16.x is the way to go at this point I guess.

Yeah, true; I've been living on git master for more than half a year now and it has been paying off. Of course, living on git master only makes sense if you trip on bugs, then create meaningful reports, so the devs can fix them quickly. Kdenlive 16.04 really brings a lot of improvements, especially in the user interface and user interaction. It also squashes a lot of bugs.
