I realize the download page for Kdenlive version 22.12.3 recommends a minimum Windows 10 OS install. However, my system remains at the Windows 8.1 level with an Intel HD graphics card. For those trying to install and get Kdenlive working properly in 8.1 here's a solution if you encounter a black screen the first time you start Kdenlive and see an application error in the Windows event log saying:
Code: Select all
Fault bucket 129327396674, type 5
Event Name: RADAR_PRE_LEAK_64
Response: Not available
Cab Id: 0

Problem signature:
P1: kdenlive.exe
:<

The solution:
  • Move the mouse to the top of the Kdenlive black window where the menus would be (that you can't see).
  • Click once to see the menus and,
  • Move the mouse rightward to reach Settings -> openGL backend ->and select "auto".
Kdenlive will ask to restart and when it does you will be able to see everything in the app normally now. ;)
