I was thinking it would be useful to have a list of ideas for software, plugins, plasmoids etc., that would be easy to find and easy to add to.
It could basically be a list of software, plasmoids or plugins for KDE or KDE software that don't exist yet but which someone would like to see. Developers (new or old) could look through the list and if anything interests them they could start developing it. When someone chooses to take on one of these tasks they could update the entry accordingly. There could be a discussion page or a thread somewhere on these forums for the ideas. Something like this has been done for games at the wiki but hasn't really been updated since then. Perhaps If it was done for a much wider variety of software it would be used more? Sorry if this has already been done, in that case I propose we make it easier to find :P.

I remember before I learnt about the importance of ethical software licensing
I found a midi-sequencer for cell phones that was very easy to use. It had a tabbed (or something similar) interface. One tab per instrument being used. Each tab had a picture of a piano's keyboard running down the side and one simply draged the mouse through a particular area to indicate when a note is to be played and for how long. I have an honest lack of talent for playing music* but with that tool I could at least get the composition correct. Something like that (though not made exclusively for ring tones) would be a great boon to the KDE extras. *At the age of five I lacked the multi-tasking required to sit on a chair while while writing at the same time. I'm not exaggerating. This got me a bad reputation with the teachers.

Hi,
as for me the problem I have is transferring my settings - Look and Feel, colours, font settings, etc. to the new KDE 4 environment. I am now using KDE.3.5 and I had a response, that I cannot just copy .kde from 3.5 to version 4. Maybe there should be some kind of a migration tool, so that I could save all my basic settings that could be then restored into a new KDE system? Maybe there is a file that I can just copy, if I cannot use the whole .kde? The point is .kde stores a lot of things, like Amarok album covers. I don't know if there is anything like this already. Regards, Richard

Depending on the distribution you don't have to copy anything. KDE4 should be using the same local directory tree as KDE3 does and each application is supposed to import its older version's settings and data. Some distributions modified KDE to use a different base directory for different versions, in which case they also provide (or should provide) the respective migration tool. So in case there are problems during upgrade, check with your distributor first as they are the ones knowing whether they have shipped a modified setup or not. Cheers, _
