Coming up with project names

Wed Oct 15, 2008 7:11 am
Sorry if this is the wrong forum.

But I'm having trouble coming up with a project name. It's an OpenGL engine. I'm building it with KDE4/Qt4 code. I had it as Neon but got tired of it and doesn't really fit it. And was wondering how do people come up with names for projects and what not.

Just because we are here in a KDE forum...

If you need a project name, just put a "k" in front of what it is: KOpenGL
or: change any "c" or perhaps "g" to "k": OpenKL

;-)

o.o
that's not very considerative. think of dolphin, dragon, plasma.
no K's whatsoever ;D
from the new names, why don't you think of some mifhological animal?
that's cute and 3d. like.... a LHAMA!

Don't make too big a deal out of the name; use your creativity in better ways...

snake and myself started a project once for which we had great ideas. We spent 2 or 3 brainstorm sessions to come up with a name. At the end of the last of those sessions, Snake said "Actually, it doesn't really matter, we may as well call it moeraskip" (dutch for 'swamp chicken'). Only after we decided to just call it moeraskip, we got a step further, and used our creativity to develop the app we wanted to develop.

All I want to say is: don't get too hung up on a name, it's only a name; if the app is good, people will accept the name, whatever it is...

Rob

P.s.:
The reason moeraskip never became the succes it should have been, was lack of time; it had nothing to do with the name...
