Hi,
I am fed up with kmenuedit as it hardly delivers the results I am expecting. So I am considering building a new app (which would take some time). To see if that makes sense some questions you could quickly answer: 1. Do you use kmenuedit? 2. Does it do what you want it to do? 3. Do you expect to see menu entries of all applications installed? and thus adding entries automatically when new apps get installed? 4. Would a purely user specific menu sufficient for you, or do you want a system wide menu which merges magically into your user menu? (e.g. an admin can add entries which appear into everyones menu). Thanks. |

1) Yes, to organise my menu like I want it.
2) It does the trick... It is hard to add programs yourself however (the Command part). Also it is not possible to select multiple Items, this could also be improved. 3) Yes I do! Adding them manually is a pita 4) I guess both. A user should be able to edit his own menu. And an admin for all users (and make it impossible for them to change it) Please, try to improve KMenuEdit before starting a new project. If if it is not going to work you can still start something new. |

1. yes i do
2. yes it does 3a. yes, but i am aware that this depends on the creator of the application if it appeares in the menu or not. 3b. no, i don't expect certain applications to show up in the menu, like command line applications. 4. a user specific menu seems impossible to me. Because newly installed applications place their menu information in a system directory (somewhere in /usr/share), while user specific information ends up in ~/.local. So i want a systemwide menu that seemles merges with my personal menu entries.
