When come to English, KDE is relatively on top of the games. However, things are little bit crazy in other Language, at least for the two type of Chinese. I mostly use KDE in English, while my Dad use KDE in traditional Chinese. Both of us, can read both Simplify and Traditional Chinese. And we find that. the Translation is kind of out there. Sounds funny enough. In the land of Chinese. People come up with millions names just for one things. For instant USB drive. they will call it U disk, finger, and some other relatively name that makes a little bit of sense. The Key is in difference speaking language, they have difference name. However, come to written language, they are pretty much the same. My suggestion is, KDE shouldn't use the name and term that is used in speaking language on the interface. This just seem a little bit in-professional. It is a good idea to use professional team on the interface. otherwise, it will make the desktop looks like some kind of backyard project.
In Some cases, some translation is just OFF. like way OFF. I can't name them all, because there is a lot. But the two on top of my head is in Traditional Chinese. the Recycle Bin, or the Trash Bin is not even a noun. Instead just translate "Recycle Bin". It is like "Put in Recycle Bin's" (that is the title under the actual recycle bin widget) in Chinese of course. And in Printer, under System Setting. It should be "Add new printer". Instead, it said "Add New Network printer". So it can only add Network Printers? If I don't know English, and haven't been used the English version. I will be totally lost to find the place where I can add a new printers. KDE place a lot of attention in the Big places, However, the Detail seem to have a lot of problems, here and there. I hope one developer nail down Big frame. they should focus on polishing the Detail, and make KDE a "Shiny" Desktop. Thanks all |

I am pretty shure writing here about wrong translations in zh_HK, zh_CN and zh_TW languages will not reach the relevant translation teams.
Please file the bugs an bugs.kde.org, product i18n, components zh_*; or even better get in touch with the translation teams via l10.kde.org and help to fix the bugs you found. The 'wrong' translation in system-config-printer-kde is no translation issue, that's a bug in the application (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=226575) |
