Alps PS/2 Dual Point Touchpad

Thu Jun 30, 2011 9:35 pm
I've been with KDE for awhile now and in particular, Linux Mint. My issue is that after KDE 4.5.4, I've lost some functionality of my alps ps/2 dual point touchpad....specifically in 4.6.0 the function of being able to hover the cursor over any edge of any given window, then using the left pad button, click & hold while dragging the birder wider and/or taller. Basically being able to resize the window to any size. I've discovered it's not software in Mint, but with KDE itself, the devs for KDE seem to have left this little nugget out and I really dislike having to use any kind of plug-in mouse....that's why laptops have touchpads. Can anyone give any kind of insight into this issue or direct me to a fix for this problem....thanks in avdvance for your help.

Does this occur with all applications? An application may have recieved a bug fix to specify a minimum window size - which cannot be overridden.

I just came along your issue and think I had the same a few months ago.
Although it might be that you already fixed it, I'll put what I did to fix this.

The issue started for me after upgrading to kernel 3.x.
The reason why this new kernel introduced the issue is because the newer kernel treats the touchpad actually ... as a touchpad! :p
Before the touchpad was using IMPS/PS2.

So at first I started digging at what exactly caused this error and in the end I found out that this is actually because of the directives I have set in Xorg.conf for this device. After some testing I came to the following conclusion: remove the touchpad stanza from your Xorg server. So not only the config for your touchpad, but the reference to it as well.

I hope this helps!
