I was trying to start playing with KDEnlive - what a wonderful tool!! - and I rotated a video, then tried the built-in crop tool, but, irrespective of the order of the crop effect in the Effect Stack, it only crops the UNrotated image. After rendering you can see the 4 "dark wedges" from the rotate process. What am I missing? In most image editors, you can crop these wedges away after rotating.

The crop was designed to crop away at the source resolution. Video is not very high resolution, so it is best to not scale down a source to project settings, then crop, and then scale up to fill the output further. It might help to think about if you were using digital photos in your project. Taking this concept into account, factor in that the mutlimedia subsystem automatically scales and pads sources to meet the project settings. This automatic step usually occurs before any video effect that you apply. Therefore, the crop was designed as an exception to that rule and applies _before_ the auto scale/pad. Therefore, regardless the order in the effect stack, crop always occurs first. I hope that helps you to understand. Now, however, I do see the problem in your use case and lack of user friendliness, and I will give it some thought. Meanwhile, the way to address your problem is to add a Pan and Zoom _after_ the rotation.

Thank you very much for the reply! I hadn't thought of Pan and Zoom as a way to get rid of the edge-wedges that appear in a crop operation. I'll give it a try. Digital video editing is a very complex process, and KDEnlive has done a lot to make it simpler. In particular, I appreciate the demo videos, and, of course, this forum!
