This is not a problem ... this is a feature : a difference in packaging rules in deb versus rpm distributions.
The *-data packages in debian derived distributions contain files that are architecture independent (usable in i386, amd64 or whatever). Don't mind it, in opensuse and other rpm based distributions all is bundled in one package, kdenlive in this case. sunab. |

"in opensuse and other rpm based distributions all is bundled in one package, kdenlive in this case."
are you sure? because i did install kdenlive 0.7.8 from yasy opensuse 11.3: kdenlive 0.7.8 kdenlive-lang 0.7.8 after installed and i open kdenlive works fine, i go to see in list of effects are few, about 10-20 lists but from kubuntu 10.10 installed: kdenlive 0.7.8 kdenlinve-lang 0.7.8 kdenlive-data 0.7.8 after installed and i open kdenlive works fine, i go to see in list of effects are many, about 20-50 lists i think opensuse is missing kdenlive-data....? check it repository or package... please check it and information ok? thank you |

Yes I am sure, *-lang packages contain only languages ...
in (K)Ubuntu and debian derivatives: -kdenlive package contains arch dependent files : binaries, libs ... -kdenlive-data contains arch independent files like icons, xml files ... in Opensuse and redhat derivatives : -kdenlive package contains : binaries, libs, icons, xml files ... In kdenlive-data, xml files are related to effects (description and user interface) but they are not the effects themselves. Effects you can see in kdenlive are provided by his backend MLT. In MLT some effects are provided by external dependencies : essentially frei0r-plugins (video) and swh-plugins (audio). Those 2 packages may be installed on your kubuntu machine and may not on your OpenSuse system. sunab. |

the problem can be that your mlt packages are not compiled with frie0r support.
What is the output of this command melt -query filters .
If the output don't list frei0r plugins (among others), here is the problem. Where your packages come from, official repositories, third party (which one)? |
