Center align template title

Sat Jan 02, 2010 8:46 pm
How does one center align a template title? I'm doing descriptive subtitles and I need to have them center aligned. Some are long and others are short. Without center alignment, I can't use this feature. The only work around I can come up with is to create a multitude of template titles, each one slightly more off center than the previous one. Then you choose which one to use depending on how long your subtitle is. Is there an easier way?

Thanks,

The only way I can find to adjust alignment options of an existing template title is to open a new title and then in the Title Clip screen open it via 'Open Document'. Are you doing some kind of animation with the multitude of template titles?

I am adding descriptive subtitles to my videos in place of narration. It's very tedious to create them one by one from scratch for each scene, especially if there's a graphic element involved. The template titles make it easy except that they don't have a way to center align the text. This means that each subtitle is left aligned and if it's short, will look awkward. If it's too long, the end will be chopped off.

If I edit the original kdenlivetitle text file as you describe, then all of the templates (every one in the video) based on that text file will change too. They will all be left aligned and unbalanced.

My work around is you make several identical text files, each one with an indent about 15 pixels more than the previous one until you reach the center. This way, after making the template and entering the text, you can go back (clip properties) and choose a different indented template title to match the length of your text.

It works, but would be easier if the template had a center alignment option. That way, if you wanted to change the text color or anything else, you would only have to change one template and not every indented template in the group.

It's not much better than your method, but I find that after I add the template title clip to the project tree, i can double click on the thumbnail (to the left of the name), and a dialog opens with a text box ... and in that text box, i can manually center the text by adding tabs or spaces.

This is also the only way I found to do multiline text in a template -- the text box accepts newlines.

Probably a better way, but just thought i'd toss it on the table ...
