After zooming in and out of the timeline countless times, I can't easily get my new end transitions the same duration as the old ones. Also, the zoom function does not have a numerical value so getting in the same zoom level is a trial and error operation. Is there a way to set a default transition duration (set in the preference menu), perhaps a default snap area a set distance from the end of each clip? That way, no matter what zoom level the timeline is in, the end transitions can always snap into the same duration initially if so desired.

A numerical zoom value would be nice!
However, to set a exact duration you might want to use the duration dialog available via double click and in the transition's context menu. |

If I have many clips to add dissolve transitions to, it can get quite tedious to have to open each context menu to set the individual durations.

Yes, I miss a default transition duration too... For me, the slideshow clip didn't produce good results, and I have about 80 pictures. With 2 transitions per picture, having to invoke 160 times the transition context menu is too much!!!
Even clicking on each picture corner to add a transition is an overkill: there should be a default transition for newly inserted pictures... Otherwise, this is a great piece of software!!!! (except when it crashes ;-) ) |

Did you try to group all your clips and set the duration to the group? Not sure it is possible...
