How to apply effects to the ouput of transitions ?

Hi,

I'd like to apply effects like color correction or threshold to the output of a transition, but I haven't been able to get it work up to now. Is it possible ? (Working with 0.7.6).

Now, why do I want to do this ?

Basically, I'd like to use the output of a difference operation as some kind of mask (after performing some noise reduction, color twists, thresholding and chroma_hold). But the diff is only available as a flexible transition, whereas I'm just applying it against a freeze of the first frame cloned onto a second track.

Any ideas ? Is there a workaround inside kdenlive, or do I have to go "external" ?

workaround: make a project with the transiton and then load the project as a clip and apply effect.

Hi Dan,

looks like I have to go "external" for the meanwhile ....

Are there any plans, ideas, ongoing actions related to such compositing issues ?

No plans at this time for more advanced compositing features.

I was just gathering for alternatives and realized the missing bit:
An effect similar to the overlay video effect in cinelerra.
One, which enables compositing features inside the effect stack.
This opens a lot of possibilities similar to node based effect stacks.
Very powerful !

MLT has some ability to do something like you describe. In addition, it can use a resource's alpha channel as a mask for filters and even to motion track that, but we have not yet devoted the time to figure out how to make all of this work in the Kdenlive GUI.
