I've heard you can zoom using composite but I have had a little play around and cannot see how it could be done? |

Oh come on it has been eight days, someone please answer. |

hi peter, sorry for being so late just set a start and end keyframe, then (let's say you want to zoom from 100% to 150%) select the end keyframe and resize the red rectangle to your need. you'll have to set opacity to 100% in both keyframes, and make the transition with a "black track" (select it in the select box above the transition panel... i can't be more precise since i don't have a pc with kdenlive installed at the moment) |

Thanks!
It is a bit of shaky zoom though? |

yes, it is shaky because you do not have good control over the rectangle coordinates. I am working on a smooth, animatable, centered zoom within MLT, separate from the composite transition. This effort is part of the Ken Burns style that people want to use with slide shows. |

I took a closer look at how this works today using Composite in kdenlive. I had forgot about the rectangle alignment controls. That solves the problem with rectangle positioning by keeping things centered. The problem remaining with the MLT composite effect is that it is based on YUV 4:2:2 with no sub-pixel positioning and interpolation. The 4:2:2 part means there is only one chroma pixel for each luma pixel (Y0 U0 Y1 V0). This means rectangle coordinates are "snapped" to even values, and as you can understand, the top, left coordinates of the rectangle are moving over time. Why? This was chosen for speed as MLT was originally implemented for realtime effects in a broadcast TV playout server. I am working on some improvements for sub-pixel interpolated, smoothly animated, pan and zoom effects (ala Ken Burns). |

Forgive my ignorance, but how do I set a start and end keyframe?
I have created a clip using a photo and applied the "Pan and Zoom" Video Effect. I can see the red box, which if I resize, resizes the whole clip. I assume I need to set the very first frame to be 100% somehow, then set the last frame to be smaller, but I can't work out how to do that.. help! :-) Thanks, Chris |

Please.. how can I manage a zoom in or zoom out of a clip with keyframes??
is it any way to do this?? or is a missing feature yet? thanks a lot !! |

The first frame is a keyframe by default, which basically says "apply all changes to the entire span of the effect". To make the last frame of the span of the effect a keyframe, too, use the controls below the "red rectangle"-window. The right jump control jumps to the next keyframe; since there is none yet, it jumps to the end of the span of the effect. Now the "add keyframe" button is active. The button was greyed out before. Use this button to create a new keyframe. Now, any changes to the parameters of the effect relate to that keyframe only. Since the first frame is the last keyframe, a transition is extrapolated from the state of the effect at that first frame.
Forgot to mention: This is with the "Composite" effect. |

keyframable zoom is not fully implemented yet. You can try to use composite with the distort or fill options, but it may not look so good.

I'm a little confused by the keyframing options, if there are any.
Above ddennedy says "use the controls below the "red rectangle"-window. The right jump control jumps to the next keyframe; since there is none yet, it jumps to the end of the span of the effect. Now the "add keyframe" button is active. The button was greyed out before. Use this button to create a new keyframe." But I can't find any "controls" below the red rectangle window. No way to jump to the next keyframe. There's just an opacity control in the middle, and a drop down to adjust size and alignment. After mentioning these controls, then ddennedy says that keyframing for zoom is not implemented yet. So... my more general question is, should I expect that currently it is not possible to keyframe or animate any effect? I've tried looking through a few different video effects, and nowhere are there any obvious or consistent keyframe input methods. |

Just starting kdenlive so possibly I'm missing something very obvious but.. Same story as previous poster, I see no controls either. Using version 0.7.4 from Arch. |

The Pan and Zoom EFFECT is not keyframable and lacks those controls below the rectangle widget. However, one can use the Composite TRANSITION, which is fully keyframable and does include those controls.
