Hi,
I've downloaded a lot of free clips from a great website, www.detonationfilms.com (there's also www.detfilmshd.com) and many of them have a black background. I read on some topics that you need some sort of "LUMA KEY" FX to "key out" the black background. Is it correct? Does Kdenlive have this FX? (I didn't find it) Is there another way of doing this with free software? Thank you all in advance, Ignazio |

not sure if you're goal is to put one of their files into kdenlive on top of other footage or what but i have a watermark video with images in and animation in it that has a black background. when i apply it on top of other footage so it appears like a video watermark, i use the "screen" transition. you can also get the video moved around using either pan and zoom video effect or scale0tilt. i know there's also the blue screen effect where you chose the chroma key color (i think?). good luck
a sample of how i use the "screen" transition can be seen here. the spinning pig head and our website banner was creating using kdenlive to create a mp4, i used affine composite on png images to get them to move around and what not: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9Sjki5rYaY |

Yes, I want to put their files on top of other footage and yes, I need an effect very similar to "chroma key" but it has to do with luminance and not chrominance, I read it's called "luma key".
Anyway, thank you, I'll try the "screen" transition and I'll let you know. Ignazio |

Ok, I tried with "screen" transition and actually it does the job. I mean, It keys out the black background perfectly but the image gets some slight transparency, it's not there at 100%, it's like it's been faded a bit... Anyway thanks a lot.
Anybody has some other suggestions? Thank you, Ignazio |
