Hello, I am running Ubuntu 9.04 and Kdenlive 0.7.3 and would like to find a way to run a clip backwards.
I have seen people mention using the Speed Effect along with an option for reverse, but I don't seem to have this option. Speed is not in the Effects menu, but is accessible by right clicking on the clip in the timeline and selecting "Change Clip Speed", it doesn't have an option for reverse. Is playing a clip backwards possible in 0.7.3? Thanks --michael |

It is not implemented yet. I have a patch that is not completely safe for all editing operations. I will try to work on it some more, or hand it over to the developers more intimate with kdenlive code.

Changing clip speed (not reverse) works for me and others - well, maybe except with some decreased stability. Maybe you did not learn the secret magic words to make it work ;-) Or, maybe there is some subtle incompatibility with the source clip format you are trying to use.

Oh, I am sorry. I did not realize until some testing tonight that their is a Speed FILTER. Yeah, the Speed filter does not work. I am not sure why JBM added that since that filter does not exit in MLT. I was referring to the Change Speed effect available in the context menu for a clip on the timeline. That one does work.

Sorry again, I should have been stressing EFFECT - kdenlive does not call them filters as MLT does.

It seems urgent adding this so basic feature. Hopefully it can come integrated into the next version. I've been days trying to compile my MLT, because I understood that with that I can get the reverse plugin, but I have failed. I have to try Cinelerra but I find it equally difficult.

Reverse does work in MLT, but apparently still not in Kdenlive despite the fact there is a checkbox for it - not sure why it is there if it does not work. Just having something in MLT does not make it available in Kdenlive. Please keep in mind that everyone believes their pet issue is basic and urgent.

I just want to second dagagz opinion that this is (IMO) a very basic feature which the average user would expect to be working with Kdenlive.
I searched the forum and the roadmap but I got the impression that this feature is somehow forgotten. That's why I bumped this thread. Are there any news regarding this feature? |

Hi there,
yes, I want this feature too ... I hope this helps a little, preparing your clips in a shell, a "how to reverse" using mencoder: http://sites.google.com/site/linuxencoding/ffmpeg-tips and maybe some help here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1353893 I haven't tested this yet. regards, yt |

Thanks for the suggestion.
In fact I do have a workaround already, since "Openshot" can do reverse playback. "Openshot" is yet another video editor (based on MLT & Co) which has (for me) a nice look but a clunky and incomplete feel. I import the clips in "Openshot", reverse them and export them as lossless as possible. So I don't have to struggle with the command line :-) Not that I'm not capable of but, as in real life, very often "showing" something to the computer (clicking with the mouse) is mostly faster and more intuitive than "explaining" it to him (writing a command line). If Kdenlive supported .avs files from Avisynth it would be easy to reverse a clip

i would like to be able to do this, it would have been useful for my current project. Is this going to become a feature at all?
