Pan large image failes

Helo! I try pan an image:

file Schillerstraße_53_zus.png
Schillerstraße_53_zus.png: PNG image data, 720 x 13504, 8-bit/color RGBA, non-interlaced
GBA, non-interlaced

I don't see any zooming in the preview-window, but whole image at once. Installed is Debian Squeeze. Thank you! Gennadiy

The video tutorials section of this web site has an example of panning across an image.
