Hi!
I want to have a title clip displayed over a still image which is dissolved into another still image, all while the title is showing. So I have put the title clip on layer 1 with the 'Composite' transition to make it transperent, the first still image on layer 2 and the second still image on layer 3 (the still images needs to be on different layers for the 'Dissolve' transition). But when playing, I only see the first image below the title; when the second image is supposed to be shown the background is black. It seems like the 'Composite' transition only has effect on the next layer below. Is it correct that a transperent clip only is transperent to the next layer and not to all below layers? If so, any ideas how to solve my problem? (To make a slideshow clip with the two still images and put it on layer 2 would maybe work, but I also need to be able to replace the still images with movie clips.) I'm running kdenlive 0.7.6 on Ubuntu 9.04 Anders |

Let us change change your description of the layers and numbers to Kdenlive's terms to make this clear. The title is on track 0, first still on layer 1, and second still on layer 2. You have to select the Composite transition to open the transition panel. Near the top of the transition panel, there is a drop-down widget to select the track with which to transition. Change that to 2.

Thanks! (Sorry for the layer numbering mix up.)
That made it work, great! However a new problem occurred. The 'Dissolve' transition on the still picture of layer 1 effects both the title clip on layer 0 and the second still image on layer 2 - but only when the still picture of layer 2 is present. If it is not present, the Dissolve transition doesn't effect the title clip on layer 0. Bug or expected behavior? I only want to dissolve between the two still images, not the title. I have opened the transition panel for the Dissolve transition and changed the track with which to transition for that as well, but it didn't help. Regards Anders |

It is a known bug with a workaround. You must add the Dissolve transition _before_ the title's composite transition. Simply remove the title's composite transition, re-add it, and set its "with track" to 2 again.

Hi Dan,
does this mean that the result of a composite effect or any sort of "track merging" transition/operation is fed back onto the bottom or higher numbered track and accessible from there for any further, stacked composition operation? I was expecting to find the result in the "higher priority" track, which I was assuming to be the one with the lower number, because in a non-composite display of stacked tracks, track 0 is displayed on top of track n, right ? Is there a doku about these kind of internals, which is pretty essential knowledge for more complicated, multi-track composition work. IMHO, the "Auto" setting should detect the next higher track ("z-buffer"), even in case it changes. Otherwise, you've to split into multiple groups whenever anything changes on upper or lower tracks in multi track (3+) arrangements. Toby |
