the problem with converting most NTSC content to PAL is that when converting from 23.976 frames per second(NTSC) to 25.000 fps(PAL) is that you end up with a jerky video, where to make up for the 1 missing frame per second it just repeats the previous frame which gives a stuttering effect. there are some old methods that some use that speed up the video that are not desirable, this is because to make up for the missing frame this old method just processes an 23.976 video at 25 fps that ends up speeding up the video. instead motion adaptive frame rate conversion creates an inbetween frame instead of just repeating the previous frame or as the old undesirable method of just speeding up the video.
there are currently no video applications on linux that have motion adaptive frame rate conversion and this is a feature that Final Cut Pro for mac has had for some time, and is the sort of thing that sat them at the top of the game. Nero's nerovision now has this feature aswell. some might say you can do frame blending etc etc. but these are detructive methods and having things like motion adaptive frame rate conversion would put kdenlive up there with the best just my two cents worth ;) |

This belongs in the Brainstorm forum. MLT has some motion estimation-based effects (see Auto Mask in Kdenlive). The implementor tried to do a frame rate converter based on this, but the results are far from satisfactory. Apparently, this is difficult to do well. Feel free to work on it.
