OK, i capture 720x480 SD dv avi type 2 files using kino from a firewire analog to dv converter. i then import the avi files into a project in kdenlive that is the DV/DVD 4:3 aspect ratio. I though DVD video profile is 720x480?
My problem is that I created a spinning watermark video using kdenlive and the AffineComposite transition. Prior to rendering it, it is all the way in the top right corner right where i want it, i obtained that by moving my little red box within the composite transition so my picture showed up where i wanted it. I render it to .mp4 not re-scaling anything so that I can import that over a video file so I can obtain the video watermark effect. i import that into a new project that again is DV/DVD 4:3. My problem is that when i do this, the spinning watermark is not in the upper most right hand corner, its down about an inch. Am I doing something wrong with sizes and what not? My final rendering, prior to upload to youtube which combines my video and the spinning video watermark is rescaled to 640x480. that doesn't matter however because even before i render it, the preview window shows the watermark about an inch down from the top right corner despite me thinking i did that steps cirrectly to get it in the farthest point in upper right corner that i could. I guess I am confused and not sure what to do. Here's my end video i uploaded to youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Te5Q_ccEftY does anyone know why the watermark is not in the farthest upper right corner? |

I need to understand better your last step of compositing the watermark over the video., Did you load a .kdenlive project into a project a "virtual" clip? What transition did you use?

the video watermark file is a .mp4 encoded using kdenlive h264 8000k 2 pass profile. 720x480 4:3, progressive forced NOT rescaled at all.
the main video is an DV avi opendml captured with kino at 4:3 720x480, interlaced. i start a new project choosing DV/DVD format which i think is 720x480, 4:3. I place the watermark video (.mp4) in track 0 of kdenlive project. I place the DV avi (.avi) file in track 1. I apply a "Screen" transition to track 0 (the video watermark), whatever defaults for that transition i have not touched them. I do NOT use any virtual clip that I am aware. add clips, move them to timeline, apply "screen", and render. that's it. after i review it using the project monitor and i like the result (i don't like it cause the location of the watermark, but hey, that's why im here). i then chose to render it using the H264 8000k 2 pass profile. i chose force progressive and rescaled it to 640x480. i noticed other suggestions of rescaling it to 640x360. Not sure where i got 640x480 from or even why i rescale at all, i thought i read that it helps prior to the degration that youtube afflicts on my uploads. true/not true? that's what i uploaded to youtube above. |

Yes, DVD is 720x480 in NTSC. Yes, generally it is a good idea to convert things to square pixels (640x480) before distributing them on the Internet; 640x360 is for 16:9. I do not know if youtube has any trouble with non-square pixels or worse quality. To be honest, I would be very surprised if that were the case with the volume of uploads and quality assurance processes they got going there.
Your instructions were good, but alas I could not reproduce it using the latest release versions of mlt and kdenlive. I can not think of anything specific in the latest releases that would have made a difference except perhaps in the original application of the Affine transition. However, if the h264 output of your watermark video looks fine when played on its own, then it rules out the Affine being source of the issue. The only other thing I can think of it that somewhere perhaps you used/made something in 16:9. In any case, can you put the Pan and Zoom effect on the watermark to affect its position? |

well, you cleared up sizes for me. my source video is 720x480 4:3, so i'd want to render out to a 4:3 size which is 640x480.
I wonder if I rescaled the video watermark to 640x360 when I rendered that video? im pretty i didn't but something to look into. im back to using the .5.6 melt and kdenlive 0.7.7.1 with FFMPEG SVN compiled myself with x264 the same. it all works. I was getting very stuff going on using sanub2 PPA for kdenlive .7.8 release but he's renamed the PPA and made some more updates so maybe I'll try that version again. i wonder if he ever answered your thread asking him which FFMPEG libraries people should use? possibly still medibuntu? not sure. i didn't try to apply a pan and zoom effect due to using the screen transition already. i thought i recall trying to use 2 transitions and kdenlive said couldn't apply transition but i will try that out and ensure i dont do any resizing until my final final render just prior to youtube. thank you for your response. |

nope, I don't get it. i did a mediainfo check on the video watermark file and this is what it says:

I don't know what the issue is. |

Quite possibly this was fixed in mlt v0.5.10 as it works for me with your fine watermark. :-)
I start with a DV NTSC project, put pcp_watermark on a track above my pond.dv, add a screen transition to the pcp_watermark clip, and it works both in preview and render. |
