Hi,
I'm new to Kdenlive (well I have tried it before, but it was too crash happy and unusable on my old machine). I like the new version, it's much more stable and runs well. I'm trying to create a shadow trailing effect in my videos. You know, where you start moving and then after a second there is the same motion, I guess overimposed over the original, but transparent (the matrix sorta has this)? I thought I could do it with the alpha channel. And it sorta worked, but I can only create one shadow effect, instead of several. see link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVtfEPJJSFg Do any of you ladies and gentlemen know how to achieve this effect with like maybe 5 shadows? Preferably without using chroma-key, cause I don't have a green screen. |

How did you do your current version?
Compositing 2 versions of the same clip on top of each other, with them being slightly out of sync? You should be able to do the same on more tracks using more copies of the same clip. |

Yeah, this one I did with compositing two clips and making them slightly out of sync.
But when I add more than one clip and chainlink them into a composite it doesn't work well. Either I don't see the other shadows, or everything goes black or the order of the movements is incorrect, meaning the shadows finish doing the movement before the solid one does (I don´t know how to explain it, maybe i'll post again on youtube). I managed to make it look better in Openshot, by using the disolve transition as a mask, but the order of the movement isn't correct there either. I'm now trying to figure out how to do the same thing in kdenlive. |

The Baltan effect does something like this, but there are no options - take it or leave it.

Which versions of Kdenlive and MLT are you using ?
On previous versions (until a few months ago) I could'nt composite more than two clips simultaneously, but on recent versions (compiled from svn, fetched from the sunab2 ppa or in the upcoming Kdenlive 0.7.8 version) it seems to work fine. So if you're using fairly old versions maybe try upgrading and try again... |

Well, I'm using 0.7.7.1, the stock version in the Ubuntu repositories. I don't see the Baltan effect on my list. I'll try to install a newer version from the PPA. I'm too N00B to install from svn.

You need to install frei0r plugins to get Baltan.

I believe those are allready installed, because I got a lot of Ei0r named transitions and effects.
anyway, I posted the tutorial about how I made mine. It's in both Openshot and KdenLive. I will split the video later, but right now there is just stuff I want to put out there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIiSEf_ZRyk |
