Okay,
So I just got into Kdenlive and I love it. I was using Openshot until recently, which is a great program if you justt want to pick up and go, but it lacks (for now) the precision that Kdenlive affords me. I sorta played around with KdenLive and although I am able to do some interesting stuff, the most basic of task escapes me, namely the proper use of Affine composite. I'm trying to make a transition between two clips where the first clip will turn as if on a sheet of paper, and when it turns on the other side you will see the other video. Somehow, the moment I add an affine composite to my clip, it gets resized.I don't know why it does this, because I certainly haven't changed any setting. I know it did this in the previous version as well. Manually adjusting the size makes the video move, which breaks the effects I am trying to accomplish. I've looked online, but there is painfully little information about creating effects with Kdenlive and there certainly is almost no information on how to properly use the (composite) effects so a newb like me can understand. Actually I had to experiment a lot to get to understand some things beyond the most basics of things. And it's not that I just want to b*tch. I honestly want to make interesting things with this software and I want to make tutorials to help others along. I have some ideas which I think the program does support, but they rely on affine composite working somewhat transparently and in a fashion that is easy to understand!!!! I am utterly frustrated because I can't seem to get this thing to work the way I think it's supposed to... Okay rant over. Now I need help. Does anyone know where I can find information about the use and workings of affine composite? It should be relatively easy to understand, cause I'm not a developer, just a regular user. |

the affinecomposite does the same to me when I apply it, it all depends on what size the red box is. if you didn't know this you can double click on the red box to get a pop up for the size and location dims. you'd want to make the size the same as your source video. It acts sort of like the Pan and Zoom video effect, you make the red box the size you want to either shrink or enlarge your photo or video (the zoom aspect of the video effect) and or the location of the red box using keyframes to get the video or photo to move (that's the pan aspect of the video effect). i've attached a picture for you to see what im talking about if it helps. so after you apply the affinecomposite transition, double click in the transition definition window and you will see the pop up. I hope I have explained what you were asking about. good luck

I'm using the newest version, so my screen looks different than yours.
I think even when I used the previous version and I made sure the red square covered the entire "screen", I could still see a part of the underlying clip. Consequently I avoided using affine. You can see what I mean in the attachment. |

That turned out a bit bigger than expected.

so what is the size of your source video? 1027x574? if not, that's your problem. the size of the red box is not the same size as your source video. if that's not it you'll have to wait for ddeneddy or whatever his name is, he's a great resource, or sanub who provides a great PPA for latest stable release of kdenlive and melt.

All the sources are the same size, because they were filmed with the same camera and changed with the same parameters in ffmpeg. Actually, if I click outside of the are with affine compositing, the film will be full size. If I use a compositing other than affine, the size is just fine. That's what's bugging me, why does it do that with affine? Am I not working it correctly?
ddenedy is a great resource and I believe one of the, if not the main developer. (which reminds me, I wanted to do some feature request, should put up a post for that later). |

Hm, have never seen something like this.
Does this also happen if you use "Pan & Zoom" effect + Composite transition? (Pan & Zoom effect is based on the Affine transition) Does this happen with all type of clips? If not could you maybe provide an example clip? |
