I am new to videoediting and I thought I would try the classic effect of putting the same actor twice in the same scene. I think it is called cloning.
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04.1 and Kdenlive 0.7.8.

I think I need to use the transition composite with a wipe file? Is that the way to go or can it be done in some other way?
I've read the tip in http://www.kdenlive.org/forum/easy-splitscreen-and-image-masks but it doesn't work that way for me. It's step 4 "The Opacity setting no longer controls opacity, but rather the percentage of the Wipe" that ain't true in my case. The opacity controls opacity.
Is there a way to achieve this effect with masking?

So, can anyone point me to a tutorial or a guide on how to do this? Or maybe give me an explanation.

Thanks in advance.

Try using the effect Scale0tilt + the composite transition.
