how to get a dream atmosphere...

Sat Jan 08, 2011 6:50 pm
Hi again

Has anybody got some experience with bringing up a kind of mesmerizing or dreamy atmosphere into the movie? Any particular effect or combination of more to use for that? Many thanks in advance

Made some tests a few months ago and I used the "Glow" effect. "Vertigo" and "Distort" can also help when correctly adjusted...

I guess the best thing is to look for "dreamy" light when shooting, and maybe using one of those "diffusion" lens attachments.

If you want to "dreamify" existing shots, in addition to jbm's suggestions above, maybe you could try for a high-key look, by slightly decreasing saturation and lightening the image a bit, for example by tweaking gamma or curves.

A slight blurring might help, too. Maybe try the "hqdn3d" denoiser for that, since it tries to preserve some detail. Also it's temporal component might look "dreamy" to some...

BTW, in a year or so, I might make a "diffus0r" plugin. Currently I am playing with blur algorithms, and when I have these perfected, they will be a good base for such a thing.
