Hi,
I'm new in Kdenlive and would like to make a scrolling text such as Star wars including text + background. The only tutorial i found was to make a scrol text from bottom to top but it doesn't disappear at the middle. Can anyone provide me how to do it? Many thanks, |

I thought I would give this a try. I'm sure there are other ways to do it, maybe better, but this is what I came up with.
I'll assume you already know how to create a title and make it scroll using the Pan & Zoom effect. You will probably need more than one title if you're going to make a crawl as long as the one in the movie. So you'll need to overlap them. In addition to the Pan & Zoom, you will need two more effects. First, add the Corners effect and make a trapezoid to create the perspective. The only parameters I changed were Corner 1 X, Corner 2X, and Stretch Y. See the screenshot below. To get the text to fade out in the distance, I tried several different ideas but the only one I could get to work was the Vignette effect. See the next sreenshot for the parameters I used on that. To get the second clip to show along with the first where they overlap, you'll probably have to edit the Composite transition to change the "with track" parameter from "auto" to the number of the track that has your next clip on it. Now to get a starry background image, I first rendered the project to a file (vob in this case) and then opened a new project and imported that clip. On a separate track I added the picture of the background. To get it to show through, I added the "addition" transition. Oh, I'm using the 0.7.9 SVN version of Kdenlive. I'm not sure if everything would work the same with 0.7.8. Here's the finished product http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPpOrMAyzZA |

Hi,
I'm missing that effect too :D I guess there is no Corner Effect. When you have adjusted the values of an Effect, you can save this as a preset, and give this preset the name "corners" as an example. It is helpful, because you have really exact the same values with just to clicks. Maybe I'm wrong, and I'm not quite sure, but probably this is the mystery Corner Effect :) EDIT: Ok ... I've looked on all params of my effects, there's nothing equal as in the screenshot. so there have to be a corner effect that i missed so far. Maybe, because he is using 0.7.9 - I've got only 0.7.8 Regards, yt |

There is a effect called "c0rners" in 0.7.8 if you have the latest frei0r version (1.2.x).
However there won't be the GUI you see in the screenshot. The GUI will come in 0.8 (0.7.9 was skipped) which should be released soon. |

frei0r 1.3 was just released, so hopefully many distros will pick it up. You can let them know about the new release.

I had some friends ask about this, so I created a brief youtube video for them showing how one can do this sort of effect (using the guidance already provided in this thread). The quick and dirty effect created can be improved on, but I think the advice in this thread is VERY good. Many thanks to jjfro for his pointers !!

ethnopunk,
Your comment: > we need more animation options! You lost me completely. What does that have to do with making text scroll. which is the subject of this thread ? I think if you wish users to understand you (re: animation in the context of text scrolling) then you will need to either explain your idea better, or if this is the wrong thread then post in the appropriate thread. As it stands now that quote of yours is not understandable. |

Oldcpu, for a better perspective effect, add some "stretch Y", as mentioned by jjfro above.
BTW, this type of text scrolling is MUCH older than Star Wars... See the opening credits of the 1939 western "Union Pacific"! |
