Hello,
I am using Kdenlive on Ubuntu 10.04 (HP notebook) and on iMac (intel, Snow leopard). My main purpose is to simply edit home video (trips, vacation, etc). I have Sony CX115E HD video camera which exports video as MTS by default. I'm using these raw files with Kdenlive. Usually I just want to stick one video after another without any specific transition, just end-start. Unfortunately, this does not work nicely and the transition can be either frozen video (for a VERY short time but the eye can see) or just dark screen, again for a very short time. Then, I put some transition effect (dissolve) and in general it does what it should but on limits (when transition starts or ends) it can produce some artifacts. I am guessing if this is due to MTS files (decoding?) or is it a bug in Kdenlive? This really makes me sad since the video is quite good quality and would like to see it also in the final media. I have another question about the framerate but will post it later, if some of you could help me with this first. If it helps, I can post the sample video somewhere. Have a nice day, Peter |

just tested this and had the same problem. just gluing two .mts files (from panasonic hdc-sdx1 1920 50i) together results in a black frame between the segments.
i tried to get rid of the "i" by transcoding the files with "ffmpeg -i $a -deinterlace -sameq -acodec copy $a.mp4" - same result. the only way is to add a fade-out transition to the first clip, a fade-in to the following clip and let them overlap in the region of the transitions. playing around with the length of the transitions down to like two frames in- and outgoing video shows that this is to hard for the eyes - my guess is it needs to be at least a quarter of a second to be nicely viewable. |

Kdenlive (MLT) tends to over-estimate the length of the file. Try trimming away several frames from the end of the clip. Also, some pausing that you see when playing inside the editor is not necessarily what you get when you Render because sometimes there are delays and frame-dropping in the realtime processing during preview especially with AVCHD MTS files.

Thanks, that I was assuming to be the problem. Trimming really helps but it's additional work to do. I later tried to use HD .mov files from iPod and sticking works almost without problems.
Thank you both for answers, I was afraid I'm the only one seeing this. |

The next release (or git head) of MLT includes a change that automatically subtracts a few frames from the estimate as this and a/v sync problems were reported a couple of times.

Apologize for spamming in this topic, but how shall I know which MLT I'm using? I'm using Kdenlive on Mac (MacPorts). Can you please link me to some instructions or good things to know about MLT (which one to use, etc)?
Another question I have is related to interlace mode, (real) frame rate and converting to DVD. Which is the best forum topic to choose? Thanks. |
