Composite colouring the video?

Thu Dec 27, 2012 10:18 am
I have come across something that I'm at a loss to understand whether it is my inexperience or a bug.

When layering video clips with composite transitions I found that the composite transition was colouring the video ever so slightly green.

I have a test example here: http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/7240/kdenlivegreencomposite.png that shows six concurrent pure white colour strips with composite transitions, and as the monitor window shows, the composite strips have stacked up to create a distinctive green hue.

This has affected a video I am working on which consists largely of two strips in split-screen with white backgrounds, and in some cases several layers with the three top layers being arrows pointing at various locations on-screen. This tinges the video a noticeable hue of green.

Is this a bug, or have I made a noob mistake?

A bug report was done sometime ago for this, so you don't say what version of kdenlive and MLT you are using but this may be fixed already. Suggest checking on Mantis, update to recent builds etc and try again.

Thanks yellow - I knew I had forgotten something, but could not remember what! Old age is creeping up on me...

I *was* using Kdenlive 0.9.2. and an unknown (by me) version of MLT, but have now upgraded to Kdenlive 0.9.3 and MLT 0.8.7, and sadly the problem persists.

Having taken your advice, I perused the offerings of Mantis, and behold the oracle she spoke! The bug is here: http://www.kdenlive.org/mantis/view.php?id=2759

The solution is quite simple: use the affine transition instead. It appears to do exactly the same thing, but with 100% alpha instead of the slight green tinge.

Incidentally, where is the correct place to inform the developers that a) Kdenlive seriously rocks and b) whoever got the ShuttleXpress working deserves a medal.

Cheers!

Hey, glad there was a solution on Mantis for you.

"Incidentally, where is the correct place to inform the developers that a) Kdenlive seriously rocks and b) whoever got the ShuttleXpress working deserves a medal."

Here's probably as good as anywhere. :-)
