Hello,
can anyboday help me on the following title clip problem. I am runnning the last version of Kdenlive 0.9.6 on a12.04 LTS xubuntu install My problem is about the adjustment of the Duration of a Title clip. When building a scrolling text everything works fine with animation . And I acn extend the clip as much as I want and the animation pauses when finished after the time declared in the Duration field. Through several trials I learned when I click only a single time into the duration field or change it then the animation will expand to the maximum length of the clip and shortening the clip will not bring it back. The duration field does accept any value but with no effect to the clip. Can anybody give me an indication whether this is a bug or any other thing I can do ? Regards |

Check this http://userbase.kde.org/Kdenlive/Manual ... vertically to see if it answers your question
Note: changing the length of the title clip on the time-line does not change the scrolling speed. If the length of the clip on the time line is longer than the duration specified in the title editor, the titles will pause on the screen for the time after the titles duration expires. If the length of the clip on the time line is less than the duration specified in the title editor the scrolling will not complete before the title clip finishes. |

I find the Kdenlive title editor generally horrible to work with, the arrangement of 'Start' and 'End' screens seems counterintuitive*, animating a text both on and off requires a complicated replication of titles, with inconsistent results, and changing an animated text once it's in the timeline (as in your current situation) can lead to problems. You also can't preview your title against your video while you're editing, so you may as well be in an external program.
Instead I've switched to GIMP for all titles (except for quick placeholders and the typewriter effect). I have made a 1920x1080 transparent template standard when I open GIMP. I make any titles I need (I'm able to use different fonts and colours, unlike kdenlive's 'one-style-per-title' restriction). I then export the title as Title.png and bring it into Kdenlive and place it in the sequence with an Affine transition. If it needs any adjustment, I make the adjustment in GIMP, re-save, overwriting Title.png, and Kdenlive updates the file automatically. For animating the text on and off the screen, I simply edit and keyframe the position parameters of the Affine Transition. This gives you a little more control of the speed of the animation, and allows you to manually create an 'ease in/ease out' animation rather than the purely linear animation of the Kdenlive title editor. In this case, a scrolling animation, I would change the GIMP document size to 1920x2160 or 1920x3240, create my titles/credits, and then animate the text through the screen from below to above, using the Affine transition. If a title involves many different lines of text which should animate on one-at-a-time, I then create multiple layers in GIMP and export them as separate PNGS: Title01.png Name Surname Title02.png Name Surname Job Title Title03.png Name Surname Job Title Organisation and bring the PNGs into Kdenlive as before, arranged as a sequence, usually with fades between each image (opacity keyframed within the Affine transition) GIMP is by no means the ideal way to create titles for video, but at this stage it works much better for me than Kdenlive's title editor. *i.e. why does the 'camera' move over the text? surely the screen is static and the text is moving past the 'camera'?

Hello,
regarding the link to the manual. NO the Title clip is NOT doing what is described in the Manual. Simply said: the animation is NOT executed according to the duration specified. All tries to modify the Duration field is ignored and the Animation is executed to the last Maximum clip length the editor has experienced. Am I the only one having this experience ? Regards |

I just checked my instal on this. The duration specified in the clip editor will be default length of the title clip when you drop it on the time line. Once on the time line you can lengthen or shorten the title clip length by draging the edges of the clip on the time line. This will not change the duration number that appears in the title editor. As explained in the manual if you shorten the clip by adjusting it on the time line so that it shorter than the duration specified in the title editor then the animation will stop short.
If you edit the duration of an existing title in the title editor and this title clip is on the timeline then - yes this duration change is effectively ignored until you also adjust the duration of the title on the time line. So if you had an animated title clip of 5 secs duration in the title editor and was of 5 secs duration on the time line and you wanted to slow the animation down by half you will have to change the duration in the title editor to 10 secs and expand the title clip time to 10 secs on the time line too. |

Hello,
I using v 0.9.6 (Kubuntu 13.10, KDE 4.12). It is definatelly something wrong with Title Cip: - create new project; - create Color clip with 10 second's Duration; - place it in to Video 2; - create Tile Clip: duration se to 1 second, ad text, edit start (f.e. to make text move from bottom off-screen); - place it to Video 1; - play to test: Title from start to finish transits exactly one second; - Wiki states "If the length of the clip on the time line is longer than the duration specified in the title editor, the titles will pause on the screen for the time after the titles duration expires.", so drag right sideo of Tile's clip to 7 second mark; - play to test: Tile transits one secontd and then stays there 6 second; - render full project in to file: title's transit become much more than one second; - save project, restart Kdenlive, and load that project; - play to test: same result - clip properties says Duration is 1 second, but Tile actualy transits more than one second. There is test project. Also I can't create Tilte clip with Duration shorter than one second: Duration I set f.e. 0.8 second -> OK -> Clip becomes 2 second (properties shows 2.2 second). Sorry for my bad English. |

durations and cut positions are always in hh:mm:ss:ff, where ff is the frame within a second. There are no fractions of a second, except frames.

Hi,
I looked at your sample project and I see the same thing you describe. Which is different to what I previously have observed when I wrote the wiki article on this. So I looked into it a bit further and it gets complicated. So what I have discovered is that the titles behave as described in the wiki when they are FIRST added to the timeline. ie a title set to 5 sec duration in the title editor will take 5 secs for the animation to complete and will default to 5 seconds length when you drag it to the time line. And if you shorten it on the time line it will finish before the animation completes. And if you lengthen it on the time line it will pause on the last "frame" of the title animation for the rest of the duration. But what I have further discovered (and this is probably what you are seeing) is that if you have expanded the length of the title on the time line and then edit the title double clicking it in the project tree) then its apparent length appears to become the length that it currently has in the timeline. But the length it says it is in the title editor does not change. eg (http://pastebin.com/xTexsYh2) create 5 sec title clip in title editor that animates. Set to 8 secs duration on the time line. Play it. The last 3 secs will be a paused final title frame. Now double click the title in the project tree to open the title editor and then close the title editor again. Now play the title in the project monitor - the title clip will take 8 secs for the animation to complete. This behaviour only seems to happen for lengthing the clip and not shortening the clip. So it is all a bit wierd. But since JBM has plans to majorly overhaul the title editor I doubt that this would get any traction as defect that would be fixed. |
