I need to roll credits down the screen. Please! Pan and Zoom. Rotate (keyframable). Why does everything have a background color that I cannot get rid of????

Please let me use my transparent PNG image with credits! It shouldn't be this difficult! I love Linux! Let me use it for my work! Don't make me use Windows for my profession! Allow me to roll credits down the screen! NO BACKGROUND COLOR

Just created a background with inkscape and imported it as png and svg. Both had a transparent background when using the picture together with an affine transition. Affine is keyframable and allows zooming and moving.

Is something wrong with your SHIFT-key?

Did you add the necessary affine or composite transition to your image with transparency? I bet you didn't, but I may be wrong here. Unfortunately, you are not giving any information what you did so far but instead tend to write in anger.

Kdenlive is just fine. I'm working with transparent PNGs all the time: my channel logo works this way. SVG also works quite well. But in any case, even with transparency present in a clip, you have to tell Kdenlive how to compose clips on different tracks in your time line. That's what the transitions are for.

By the way, you may need to either repair your caps lock key or alternative read the forum rules. Especially if you want help.

I was using Composite with Pan/Zoom, then Rotate Shear, then something else - all the plugins that allow me to move the credits have automatic background colors. I was very worried...freaking out trying to get rid of the background color (which I wished had a "disable" button so much). I got rid of Composite and used Affine instead. That worked.
I never used Affine before this...always used Composite. I'm glad that Affine works for getting rid of those background colors in the other plugins. I really think it would be convenient and necessary to have the ability to enable/disable the background color and/or use transparency for the background color within the other plugins (Rotate/Shear, Pan/Zoom, etc). That would make things much easier. When it comes to my own style, I just find the background color in plugins to be annoying.

Caps lock is my way of expressing emergency. And emotion too. "Aaahh!!! I have a serious problem that's interfering with important work! Oh nooo!" <----I guess that's what caps lock is to me.

I didn't know that using caps lock was against the rules in this forum. I'm sorry for doing that.

It was my impression that affine and composite both handle composition of the tracks the same way, especially with respect to transparency. So you leave me somewhat dazzled as to which trap you felt into. Since I've noticed strange interactions when your are composing one track onto another with the clip and pan effect present and then compose this onto a third track, maybe this was biting you ... but I'm still not clear on this.

In my newer projects from the past few months I routinely use the composite transition for titling, together with a wipe file. The titling area is a png with transparencies, so the underlying video is still visible. And this works without problems. This makes me wonder whether there is some bad interaction between pan and zoom, albeit I've used that also before with text titles without any noticeable transparency issues.

It may look as if there is something like a background color going on, when in fact (at least to my admittedly limited understanding) there is no such thing in Kdenlive.

The effects (that's Kdenlive's term for what you call plugins) don't have the idea of a background. All they do is to work on the RGB and A values of the pixel that make up frames, individual stills in your clip. RGB are the red, green, and blue channels, and A is the alpha (transparency) channel.

Then, the most tricky part is to understand that tracks in Kdenlive's time line are not layers. Yes, tracks are not layers. ;)

In consequence, tracks don't have the notion of transparency. That's the reason for the common unexpected behavior of Kdenlive that when you place a title clip with transparency in its A channel on a track above another clip on a track below, you get somethings that looks like a black background.

But the reason here is that the title clip renders black in the RGB channels in any place where there isn't any lettering, et cetera. And since there is no transition applied to fuse the two clips on their tracks, only the title clip gets rendered. And you get black in all the places where you would expect transparency.

When you apply effects (as opposed to transitions), then most of them won't touch the background, as there simply isn't any background. In some cases, you simply get full transparency in those parts of the frame where an effect causes voids to appear.

Thus, you need a transition, such as affine or composite to fuse two clips and obeying transparency at the same time.

I agree with the fellow, would be really nice to see a checkbox option to include a background (or not) when using a crop/scale position tool. Thanks guys, seems like this is really professional quality software so far. Oy!

Hi,

I think I've got a similar problem but the above responses haven't helped me much, probably down to my own ineptitude.

I've got film of speakers at a protest on the third track, cutaways of the protest etc. the second track and an ident type thing as a title on the first track.

When I get to the cutaways on the second track they show up behind the ident titles but whenever it goes back to the speakers on the third track it's just a black background.

I've tried composite and affine but KdenLive won't entertain either, presumably because I'm trying to do it on tracks 1 and 3, leapfrogging track 2.

I've been editing the cutaways (track 2) in to the speakers (track 3) and moving it to track two but it's a bit of a pain and rather clumsy!

Is there a way around this or am I just stuck?

Thanks for any hep you can offer.

@ kde-davep A trick that might work. Put a 4th empty video track on your timeline and put an affine transition on your title track and make the transition be "with track video 4 "

HI ttguy,

Sorry for the somewhat belated response! I tried a fourth track but it still had a black background.

Thanks anyway!.

Without seeing your timeline makes it a little difficult but what works for me is this:-

Use Composite transitions. Click on the title clip transition and in the top right hand corner of the dialogue click on auto, change it to "with track 3". Job done, I hope.

Well it works for me. :-)
