I have video streams from three cameras that I intend to cut between to make a short film. Two of the cameras are 1440p and one is 720p. I'd therefore like the resulting video to be 720p, because that's the best resolution I've got. Of course, this means that I need to "crop" a 720p portion out of each of the 1440p videos. How do I do this? If I set the project profile from the 720p video, and then put a 1440p clip on the timeline, Kdenlive shows that 1440p clip as filling the screen -- that is, the clip gets automatically "resized" for me to fit the profile. If I then crop the clip with the Crop, Scale and Position effect, it crops that "resized" version. I can use the scale part of the effect; is that what I'm supposed to do? The scalex and scaley figures are 50 -- does this mean that Kdenlive adds a sort of "implicit" scaling of 100 to 50 on the clip because it doesn't match the profile? If I then set the scale to 100, will kdenlive just use the original clip, or will it lossily scale it down and then scale it back up again, resulting in graininess?

You can try the pan and zoom effect. It work perfectly for static images bigger than project size and therefore it may work as well for your need.
The true bravery is to do what is fair.

I think yes - this is what you should try. What happens if you do? |
