I have a title clip which simply has a small text box with a name in it. I want it to appear for a few seconds when someone comes into view on the video to identify them. The title background needs to be transparent so I set the opacity to 0 and check "Show background".

When I click "OK" and add the title clip to a video track, the background comes out as black, obliterating the video beneath.

On re-opening the clip to check the settings, the "Show background" option has been reset to unchecked.

No amount of setting this option makes it stay on. I've tried saving it to disk separately and re-adding it to the project tree.

I'm sure I've used transparent backgrounds before without problems.

Am I doing something dim?

Thanks.

I don't know what was going on but this has started working now.

I'm going to lie down in a dark room for a while.

I belive that show background option only has an effect while you are editing the title in the title editor window. It is there just to aid composition of the title so you can see what it will be overlaying.

When you put the title on the timeline the background will be black unless there is a affine or composite transition between the title and video tracks. Kdenlive usually automatically adds this transition for you.

I think these 2 facts might expalain what you observed
