I'm applying a dissolve transition between two clips. On of them is an odd size (1678x628) and while the transition occurs this video gets stretched. Once the transition is over it instantly jumps to the original size and I'm not sure how to correct it. Any advice? The project's target size is (720x486 NTSC)

Did you go with the (I think default) transition setting of stretch or so? I'm not sure if it would help to use the affine transition instead that may allow better control. What's the size of your other clip? It may help to bring the source clip to better dimensions using clip and zoom first, but just a guess.

Does this happen in the rendered file? Because I have seen this but I am not sure the problem carries over once you render.

Yes it does happen once rendered. |

It automatically sets the transition to dissolve, which is what I'd like to have. Is there a separate option on the stretch? The other clip is the target size for the video (720x486). As of now I've changed the target aspect ratio to be 19:6 and the transitions are not causing the size change now. I'm still not sure what the root cause of this though. |

None of the clip and project sizes is 16:9 if I'm not mistaken. All have different aspect ratios, unless there are correct non-square pixel sizes also set for these clips. I'm at a loss how such a combination is going to be composited and rendered by MLT. I can only suspect that this may be related to the issues you saw.
