After upgrading to ubuntu 15.10 the effect stack and transition stack are missing. I know you're supposed to turn them on and off from the view window but they don't exist in the view menu either. If i could revert to the old kdenlive i had before the update wiped it that should be fine but i can't find a way to do that either. If there is another way to edit the options of the effect that would also work for me since i can still apply effects.

Kdenlive starting around 15.08.x uses a new unified "Properties" pane instead of the old separated "Effect Properties" and "Transition Properties" panes. You should be able to enable the Properties pane with menu "View">"Properties".

I experienced a similar problem, resetting the kdenlive configuration solved it for me, whereas reboot and reinstall did not work. It looks like kdenlive configuration files got corrupted...

Okay i found that. Who ever runs the website should mention that somewhere cause out of everything i could find on effect stack, none of the pages said anything about it being replaced with properties. I thought that was just for clip properties at first, like the one you get from right clicking a clip. All should be well now but somewhere along the way of resetting and such I deleted the project i was working on c'est la viv |

"In kdenlive version 15.12 the effect stack is merged with the "Transition" window to create a "Properties" window. The Properties window displays the settings for the effects on the currently selected clip (Figure 3) or the settings for the currently selected transition (Figure 4) depending on whether it is a clip or a transition that is currently selected." |

I have v.19.08.3 running on Windows 7. None of this applies in my case. There is no way to Remove an effect. There is no Properties sheet to edit the effect. There is no Properties entry in the right click context menu. I went to the Wiki and I read there is something called 'Effects Stack' where the properties are----I spent several minutes hunting for this thing called Effects Stack, and did not find it in the UI, nor in the menus.
I read in the Wiki that I should be able to drag the length of a 'Fade to Black' effect by hovering the mouse over the corner of the triangle until a blob shows up. I tried. The circular blob flashed for a second and then disappeared. I never saw it again. The cursor turns into a palm, and that's it----the effect triangle cannot be selected, cannot be deleted, cannot be edited. I have been using Kdenlive in Linux for many years. My projects are of a rather simple nature. I have never needed help. I have been able to intuit quickly enough the few things I need, like Fade In / Fade Out and Dissolve. It works for me, very reliably. I was frustrated (to the point of rage briefly) to find that the Windows UI appears to be much the same, but behaves so differently. My ego got locked into solving my simple Fade effect problem, because I just could not believe that it really is the program. I kept thinking I am a dummy for not figuring it out. I wasted a lot of time before deleting the clips (to remove the Effects), adding the clips again, and then using the Wipe effect to achieve the same end result. This is what my son would call an Epic Fail. The question is whether it is my fail or the application's. For once, I think it is the application's. It is a mistake to get cute with Windows. Windows is not a tough, reliable system. It is jittery and fragile. I got a 'Runtime error' message, and Kdenlive crashed. The smart thing to do is get rid of the mouse blob and drag method of adjusting the Fade length. Restore the numerical method option (if not default) and restore the trash can icon for deleting the effect. Add to context menu Remove Effect, with sub menu list of active effects, right under Add Effect. Add to context menu a Properties entry --- 1) for clips in timeline, and 2) for effects in the middle panel with the list of effects. I should be able to adjust my fade numerically as I do in Linux. |
