Speed effect not affecting audio

Sat Apr 02, 2016 7:07 pm
Hello world

This worked in the past, as I've used it before. There, now that I got that out of the way, here's my problem:

Adding the speed effect to a clip and setting it to 200% (for example) affects only the video and not the audio. (Picture here: http://i.imgur.com/EYvXsNk.png)

Has something changed? Or has something broken?

I have Kdenlive version 15.12.2, running on Kubuntu. Using the Kdenlive stable ppa.

I've tested with the master build from ppa:kdenlive/kdenlive-master and this still happens.

Speed effect in master has been updated some weeks ago to allow audio and reversal. Needs of course a recent MLT.

It's not silencing it now. It doesn't affect the audio in any way.

To allow what to audio?

What's MLT?

The Master build I used, according to Launchpad was built 4 days ago.

So, if the speed effect does not affect the audio, how can I speed up the audio at the same rate as the video?

Today you have to work around and change audio speed by handling audio separately and change speed by using audacity or other tools.

MLT is the media lovers' toolkit, the A/V engine that drives Kdenlive. MLT does the rendering, be it final rendering or preview in the Kdenlive monitors. MLT in turn relies on ffmpeg for A/V format decoding and encoding.

https://quickgit.kde.org/?p=kdenlive.gi ... f390f8482b describes a recent patch on March, 13th that switches Kdenlive's speed effect to the new timewarp producer. According to the description of the timewarp producer (https://github.com/mltframework/mlt/blo ... mewarp.yml):
In addition to modifying the speed of the video, the audio is also slowed down
or sped up to match the video.

This change is both in git master as well as Applications/16.04, so it will be delivered as part of the upcoming stable Kdenlive 16.04 release.

I've just updated Kdenlive with the build from 9 hours ago from master: https://launchpad.net/~kdenlive/+archiv ... ilter=wily

Applying the speed effect on the video+audio group with a speed of 200% only shortens the video and the audio remains the same.

How is that build made? the version number specified in Kdenlive help menu is 16.07.70.

Yes, that's because the speed effect is a video effect and thus does not work on separated audio. At this time, there is no audio speed effect available to the best of my knowledge. When you don't separate audio from video, then the speed effect correctly applies to both audio+video.

Disable Settings > Configure > Timeline > Automatically split audio and video.

And is there a way to recombine them if they have been split?

If I can't recombine I have a better idea then exporting (rendering) each clip cut to audacity (since I see no option to directly open a clip section in Audacity from Kdenlive).

I've added the raw clips again in the project, and kept them from splitting the audio. I'll re-cut them using the cuts I've made before as markers. and then I'll continue with my editing. I hope this works.

I think there may be a (not exactly quick) way to achieve the recombine that should work with recent Kdenlive from either master or testing. I didn't test for myself, so I may be wrong ... but I remember having seen some update that may be of help to you.

Select a particular video clip in the timeline, then right click and choose clip in project bin. This should, at least in principle, not only select the clip in the project bin but also set the in and out points according to the selected clip region from the timeline. You then could draw this region from the clip (!) monitor into the timeline again, this time it won't be split into separate audio. Copy and paste any effects if necessary. Repeat as needed.
