hi there, not sure if it s my fault or a bug: I want to "fix " a static video shot with an overlayer on one point to hide a sign in the video. So i put the video in the timeline, make still, edit the still in gimp till i just have the part that should overlay, then I make the rest of the image as a background alpha channel, export to .png but then when i add the image and try to overlay it, the black background gets also overlayed.. am i missing something? I m always getting confused by this transparency stuff, but i think i did it ok this time... anyone? :)

2 things to check first:

in 'Settings>Configure Kdenlive>Misc' there is an option called "Transparent background for imported images" - make sure that you have this checked.

Also confirm that your image has an alpha channel - eg you can open a terminal and use ImageMagick:
Code: Select all
identify -format '%[channels]' Image.png

if it says 'rgba', not just 'rgb' it should be fine. But generally as long as you had an alpha channel in your image within GIMP (i.e. if you could see the checkerboard background) then exporting as PNG should usually create an alpha channel no problem.

thank you'!!

It finally worked out another way, by just cropping the image and overlaying it over the other...
