[No Bezier] Pan and Zoom

Thu Nov 24, 2016 5:41 pm
I know this came up in the past, but the lack of bezier curves for controlling pan and zoom seems like a significant missing feature of Kdenlive. Is there a way to attain this effect without having to resort to the VSE in Blender?

Thanks

It is possible by calculating each frame position and setting each frame (or every other keyframe. video of me doing it for demo purposes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMsEpdDO58I ).

On one hand this is a huge effort, on the other hand the clips could be saved using the Library feature or by importing the .kdenlive into future projects (video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8HMf0okICQ ) and then it should be possible to copy-paste the pan/zoom effect to another clip (video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIDeUz-ohAI ).

On the other hand this will not work with varying frame rates/resolution and I have had some issues lately with copying pan/zoom effects, sometimes that action seems to screw up the keyframes.

I did it once (for titles). Really nice but too much an effort to ever do again.

I requested easing functions in 2015 and was told that mtl has that feature but kdenlive has no implementation yet. Perhaps if we were to propose a simple implementation (drag and drop menu of a few functions?), then it would be easy enough for developers to implement.

I see what you did there. While tedious, I thank you for the feedback and will probably use this method. Given the fact that pan/zoom is basically the most used effect in all video editing, im surprised they haven't looked at this by now. Still, grateful for the KDENLIVE progam and I still believe its the best Open Source NLVE to date.

Pan & Zoom (external frei0r plugin) is not being updated with interpolation feature because it lacks the proper API...
And it is not needed because for that purpose you should use a "Composite and transform" transition that offers you the scale & position keyframes with smoothed interpolation !
Yes, sorry that there are always 100 ways to achieve something, not all with the same freedom degrees / quality / performance... In many situations the new "Composite and transform" is your best bet.
Is that what you need ?

Hmm, I didn't realise the comp and transform had interpolation. I'll check it out, thanks!
