Project Render Size

Fri Jan 27, 2017 12:08 pm
Hi,

I have a 1280x720 clip that I want to bring in and crop so that the only the central part of the video is showing and the resultant video size is say 500x720. Whenever I use any of the crop tools, yes the left and right parts of the video are cropped, but the resultant rendered video is still 1280x720 with large black sides.

Is there any trick to doing this or do I have to define the project settings from the start of my project to 500x720 and bring in the 1280x720 clip?

Thanks,
Chris.

You can try to set the rescale option in the render dialog to 500x720.
--> OK, checked this one - does not work.

So, you can create a 500x720 project, add the clip. Maybe you have to play around with Composite transition or something similar, to bring your footage into original size again (as it may be adjusted to fit into your 500x720 project).

Yes, after playing around a bit more last night it seems that the only way is to define the resultant project size first (500x720) then use some Effects to crop and scale the part of my clip I want.

Thanks.
