hi...
new to kdenlive and new here... goal = i am trying to create an animated logo to use in several videos..... hopefully.... but logo needs to be handed off to "client" and i would like to do that with a transparent background in place....so person can drop logo video clip into a track easily ( even if they have to add a transition ...the alpha would already be in place - alpha contains opacity variations across the logo) (me = arch linux ) and would like to keep this project opensource - create the animated logo saved as .mp4 with alpha channel extracted used synfig studio = check and seems good i do not understand what/where to look for info/direction for accomplishing this ( logo with a transparent background ) in kdenlive im not sure i understand what i am supposed to do with an alpha channel video file in kdenlive i did discover the green screen effect as well as other transitions options that can accomplish a transparent background .....but all of these are done without the alpha channel that preserves opacity settings from the original synfig render animation am i thinking about this completely wrong....? is .mp4 unable to contain an alpha channel even though synfig will render one for .mp4....? can an animated black and white video clip be used as a transparency mask....? thanks for any help in advance peace |

i am having problems following this. your goal is to put a video with a transparent baclground above a clip or an image?

Hi
Thanks you for your reply.... I am trying to create an introduction logo that is a clip/video (3 sec. long) I would like the intro clip to have a transparent background.... I created the intro clip with synfig (a vector animator and clip has some transparency elements ) and rendered intro clip with the alpha channel extracted The intro clip will be placed over another video clip that is the actual content of video .... Hopefully with a transparent background so you can see the video clip underneath the logo intro The extracted alpha channel is a clip/video also I am able to get a transparent background threw transition/effects (green screen effect) But this method does not preserve the transparency elements that created in the original synfig animation (these are contained in the extracted alpha channel) But I am not sure what to do with the alpha channel clip.....mostly because it is a CLIP/VIDEO and NOT an alpha STILL IMAGE |

Yes trying to make clip with transparent background...
Original clip had an extracted alpha channel clip.... This will be on top of other clip tracks |

yes so make two video tracks add the logo on top and i think you then need to add composite/affine between

Yes
The method u spoke of is what I meant by the transition method 2 tracks Add transition Change to composite ( or other possibilities like affine ) Add effect like green screen to remove background color.... But what I am asking is I have a video clip and it's twin alpha channel extract The alpha channel contains the transparency settings that are in the original/credited vector animation The method u r describing does not extract the transparency information with in the animation It just removes a color of ur choosing (like green screen but u can pick a different color other than green like black ) The method is supposed to be .... ( to my understanding ....but i lack the knowledge to execute this method ) Original vector animation = trk 1 Alpha channel animation = trk 2 Content video = trk 3 Somehow I transition trk 1 and 2 together to create the complete animation combining the original and alpha channel together And then Transition that combo to trk 3 with a transparent background ( maybe like the affine method ) This is rather easy with still images I am not sure if an alpha channel clip is even able to do this method ( still images forsure can ) Also I am not sure if mp4 is able to do this either It might be a file extension issue that mp4 is not capable of becoming an alpha channel ( which houses the original transparent data ) But yes the method u r suggesting is a quick n dirty method that does work But because I designed transparency into the original vector animation It looks like **** Just a bunch of over saturated colors n what not Did that make sense lol...? Typing this on a phone N the post/replies look messed up |
