Doing Chroma Key On Kdenlive Problems

Thu Oct 12, 2017 10:22 pm
I have 2 Clips on the timeline. One is a Green Screen Flames, the other is a PNG bars. I add the Chroma Key effect. But when I add the Chroma Key Effect, nothing on the screen changes, except the words Chroma Key added to clip. If you view this video, I see nothing but the list after I add the effect. I see nothing like what is going on in this video - https://youtu.be/_6gxHLCFhLQ
I Put two green screen clips on the tracks, apply Chroma key to either clip and nothing changes in the effect panel and the Chroma Key does not remove the green screen from the Background. This Program is screwed from what I see in that video, how do I fix it to run better?

I am running Linux Mint 18.2 Sonya Cinnamon on this computer I call My Editing Beast I am running Kdenliver MLT version 6.5.0

Never mind, It is fixed now, I just went View on the top line and made sure Properties was checked. But I do notice, the effects work like excuse the language, ****!. I have 2 Green screen videos and a PNG image and there is no way to put the PNG Image behind the Green Screen videos. It just cannot be done with this Program.

This is what a clip, using two Green Screen Clips, a Chroma Key effect put on the two green screen clips, also Chroma Hold and a Composite Transition put below each green Screen Clip. The Flames are supposed to red, but I nhad to up the variance so high to see the picture on the track below

I realize that it's been a little while since you asked, but this question comes up on Google, and the answer might at least help someone else. Green screening is terrible in Kdenlive IF you use the wrong colorpicker. I have added screenshots to try and illustrate where to click and where not to. The skinny of it is that you should not click the color and then choose "Pick screen color". Kdenlive's chromakey is actually impressive if you use the water droplet instead. That allows you to click in the viewer, and create a square region, from which it can grab all of the greens (or whatever color) in the selected region. Green screens are almost never just one shade of green in actuality, so this is a must.

So, don't click this:

Do click this:

Then draw a square:
