After I try to apply the Crop, Scale and Tilt effect to a clip, the clip goes blank black, and changing any settings within the effect options has no effect.

I am running Kdenlive 17.04.3 on Ubuntu 16.04. Any idea where I might look to solve this?

This version seems to be running pretty smooth compared to what I'm used to. Though it doesn't solve my problem - in this version the Crop, Scale, and Tilt effect is completely gone

Sure, but then there is not tool to stretch/squeeze a video? What If I need to zoom in the x-direction only?

i can help you on this.. :) there is a "icon" that make X and y values chained... this prevent distortion when zooming... (check also that "distortion" flag is selected)
Image
just touch this button and manually set a large X value ... this make you can do an animation that stretch the video horizontally.

I think this problem has not been solved by the above posts and answers. I am new to kdenlive. I have the same issue. I need instruction on using Crop, Scale and Tilt. My Project Monitor goes BLACK when I begin using this feature. Why? And How do I get Crop, Scale and Tilt to properly work? Thanks

I just posted the following bug report. Sounds like what I am experiencing is not as severe as having the whole monitor go black, but only the top video shows in the Project Monitor, and the second video only shows when the top vide o is hidden. IF this effect worked, it would be equivalent to the Final Cut Pro Transform function. Hoping to leave the Mac world behind, but I need Kdenlive to work!

Kdenlive 0.9.6-5ubuntu1 is installed on an Asus Chromebook running Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS under crouton with the xfce desktop. Kdenlive was installed with apt-get install kdenlive, and there were no issues with the installation. The goal is to produce a video with two video clips and one audio clip. One clip is a flute and the other clip is a guitar, to place flute in upper left in larger window and guitar in lower right in smaller window. Both clips had Crop, Scale and Postion effect applied, and were separately cropped, scaled, and positioned. The second clip was cropped, scaled and positioned by hiding the first clip. The clips do not overlap when viewed individually in the Project Monitor .When clip 1 was unhidden, I expected both clips to appear in their respective position, but when clip 1 is unhidden, clip 2 does not appear in the Project Monitor. The second clip only appears on the Project Monitor when the first clip is hidden. There appears to be no way to make both clips visible on the Project Monitor at the same time. So far, everything other than this effect seem to be working OK.

OK, what solved the crop, scale and position not working issue was updating MLT. Here is a copy and paste from Ask Ubuntu. Both Open Shot and Kdenlive use MLT.

[start copy and paste]

MLT is the graphics framework that the current (v1.4) and previous versions of Openshot depend upon for much of its graphical editing capabilities.

Looking at the Openshot forums, they recommend the following PPA if you wish to upgrade the MLT version:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:sunab/kdenlive-release
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

[end copy and paste]

Now crop, scale and position works exactly as expected, and rivals Final Cut Pro IMHO.

Hope this helps!

Hope this helps.

HI

I use kdenlive 17.08.2 with ubuntu 17.10

I have the same behavior :
as soon as use the Crop, Scale, and Tilt effect , my clip goes black

its not possible to use : add-apt-repository ppa:sunab/kdenlive-release
the URL is not present for artful version
Code: Select all
Atteint:1 http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu artful InRelease
Ign:2 http://ppa.launchpad.net/sunab/kdenlive-release/ubuntu artful InRelease
Atteint:3 http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu artful-updates InRelease

I downloaded the 17.08.3 appimage, but in this version the effect :
Crop, Scale, and Tilt effect
is not present

thanks for your support

I think your Describing the same issue I am having with My Kdenlive. You place a Title on the top line, and put images below and the after applying Pan and crop, and even before you go to move it the image is not there.

I don't think we can do much about this. For now use a edge crop for cropping, transform for x axis rotation and scaling, and rotate for rotation
