I am going to share a video on what is wrong but I will also explain with text.

Basically, I am trying to put in a pure white background the same as I would in Cyberlink Powerdirector. I am trying to move all my PCs away from windows and this is one app left that I have to try and replicate as much as possible. I thought I would attempt this with kdenlive.

We use white backgrounds in many of our videos for use on the web. We shoot them with a white background and then in our current editor we apply a even more pure white background jpg file to the video to get a really clean look.

That is what I am attempting to do in this video in kdenlive but it is not working. Can someone please review and see if I am doing something wrong.

Here is the video link:

Take the „variance“ down to about 10. The slider below the color drop.

That did not help. I tried it and nothing changed. The problem is its not really detecting the white.

So changing the variance looks like it works. However when I put the pure white background it bleeds there. I tried everything I could with variance and still doesn't work. Like I mentioned I take this same exact video in PowerDirector. I select white for chroma key. It is pretty much done from there because we blow out the background pretty well with lighting.

Then I put the pure white image in for the background just to be sure I get a pure white with no shadows. Seems to work very easily in that Windows program :(.

I think I mentioned that some other windows programs have the same issue that I am having with Kden.

I made some test and I think a withe background is a problem for Chroma Key because all reflections get keyed as well. And if you just raise the variance a bit suddenly gray gets keyed in addition. So I think a green background would be much better. A hint: if you draw up a rectangular with the color picker it gets more accurate.

Just a note this same video works fine in Davinci Resolve and Cyberlink Powerdirector. So I was trying to get to the point that Kdenlive needs this fixed. I should not have to use a green background. White Chromakey is just the same when you are replacing it with a white background.

I got this to work just fine in flowblade as well. In flowblade I had to use LumaKey which I tried using in kdenlive and it didn't work either.

Interesting. Thanks for the feedback.

In Flowblade chromaKey doesn’t work neither?

Could you share a video, as above where you doing the keying in Flowblade with the lumakey?
We found some strange behavior with MLT in the refactoring version. Maybe it helps to find the bug.
