Automatic transition does not work

Sun Sep 29, 2019 2:14 pm
When I create a transition between two clips (e.g. the simple default wipe transition) it is not set as an "automatic transition" although the automatic transitions button is active. I.e. when I adjust the overlap between the two clips involved in the transition the length of the transition is not automatically adjusted to cover the region where the clips overlap.
I then tried to manually set the the transition as an automatic transition by selecting the transition and choosing "Automatic Transition" from the Clip menu but this menu item is greyed out so it cannot be selected (although I have the transition selected).

Any idea what I am doing wrong (or is this a bug of KDEnlive)?

I am using KDEnlive version 19.08.1 on Linux Mint 19.2 Cinnamon.

Thanks for any help.

This seems to be a different issue (although it might be related). The length issue mentioned in your link can be solved by going into Settings -> KDE settings -> Misc. There you can set different defaults, one of them is a default length for new transistions. If you set this default to empty, new transitions will automatically have a length which is adapted to the overlapping portion of the clips.

Unfortunately, this does not solve the issue that automatic transitions cannot be set.

I just recognized that setting the default length for new transitions is unfortunately no solution. Setting the default to empty only works for the default wipe transition between two clips which is added by clicking on the small green square in the corner of one of the clips. However, adding a transition manually between two clips or at the beginning of a clip by dragging it from the list of transitions or by double clicking on the transition does no longer work at all when the default length is set to empty.

I downloaded and run the appimage files of versions 18.12.1b and 19.04.1 and can confirm that in version 18.12.1b adding a transition and setting a transition as automatic transition work as expected while it is broken in 19.04.1. So it seems that the bug was introduced in version 19.04.1.

Should we file a bug report in KDE's bugtracker at https://bugs.kde.org as indicated on KDEnlive's website or is the entry under https://invent.kde.org/kde/kdenlive/issues/367 sufficient?

What is the difference between the KDE bugtracker and the other site?

FWIW Just installed 19.08.1 on MX19 and 19.08.2 on Ubuntu Studio. Neither of them have a Transition menu anywhere that I can find or a Transition option under the view menu and, the Automatic Transition option under the Clip menu is greyed out in both of them.

In this case the bug was reported direct in https://invent.kde.org/kde/kdenlive which is the developer environment tool. No need to report it again in KDE bugtracker.

In general bugs should be reported in KDE bugtracker.
