I tried to gradually introduce gaussian blur effect onto a clip, but I seem not able to find keyframes...did I miss something or is it not possible with this effect?

Yep, Gaussian Blur (GB) does not have keyframes. Use Square Blur (SB) instead. It may not have the many settings GB has but the Kernel Size and Sigma values for about the same blur are pretty much the same (e.g. Kernel Size 7 in SB gives the same amount as Sigma 6 in GB).
