When I apply the Wipe transition, the pulldown list for Wipe Method in its parameter section shows only "None (Disolve)" as a possibility. I've noticed that in a number of online tutorials other users have access to a variety of Methods to give diagonal wipes, blinds, spirals, clocks etc. But again, I can only get this single possibility.

I get the same lack of options in either Windows 7 or Linux Mint 19.3. (I have a dual boot machine).

This is with Kdenlive 20.12.2, and the appimage in the case of Mint.

Does any helpful person have a suggestion on what I'm doing wrong?

i suggest you (on windows) to select "reset configuration" on HELP menu and restart kdenlive.
BTW kdenlive on Windows 7 (and Windows is affected by this bug: https://invent.kde.org/multimedia/kdenlive/-/issues/813 (that "maybe" can affect something else)

Thank-you for the suggestion. I gave "reset configuration" a try, but the pulldown list still only contains one option for the Wipe transition.

I get the same result in either Windows 7 or Linux Mint 19.3.

Also noteworthy is that if I revert to version 17.12.3-0ubuntu1 (which is available in the Mint Download Manager), then the pulldown list is fully populated with quite a few methods to choose from. But I'd much prefer to use the newest version.

Is anyone else seeing this behavior, or am I doing something stupid?

This is driving me nuts! I spent quite a few hours trying to see if somehow the transitions had wandered to an incorrect place, in both Windows 7 and Linux Mint 19.3. I already knew that these files were named *.pgm, since they worked correctly in version 17.12.3 and I'd spotted them there. Here's what I've found:

In Windows 7 (and after a clean reinstall) the *.pgm transitions appear in:

C:/Program Files/kdenlive/bin/data/kdenlive/lumas/HD

And in Linux Mint 19.3 (running the appimage) they appear in:

/usr/share/kdenlive/lumas/HD

Do these seem correct? Or is there some other problem holding me back?

Thanks for any hints or tips as I try to get Kdenlive working properly. Incidentally, I'd prefer to use it under Linux Mint.

Hello Friends,

I solved it. Just a few moments ago the folder name HD suddenly suggested to me that these transitions are high definition only. Well in fact, I've been working with a 640 by 480 default format to match my old camera.

As soon as I changed the project format to HD 1080p, the transitions appeared in the menu. It might be good to mention in the manual that the desired transitions should match the project format in order to access all of the transitions.

That explains that! So now I'm hoping to convert those *pgm files to my favored 640 by 480 format. If anyone knows how to do that, I'd surely appreciate some pointers.

Anyway, you can forget my original question/problem.

Thanks to your prod, I did some experiments just now. I took one of the HD wipes, resized it to 640 by 480 in GIMP, then stored it in a new folder called NTSC...and it works!

It took some guesswork and several attempts, but I believe this is going to work out okay for those with older cameras like me.

So for emphasis, the parent folder is "lumas" and it now contains the folders "HD," "PAL" and the new one "NTSC."

This is really cool!
