Motion Tracking Question and Issue

Wed Nov 17, 2021 5:24 pm
Hi,

I'm new to the forum and to Kdenlive (after switching from Openshot). The version I'm using is 21.08.3. I'm enjoying using the software so far. I have a couple of general questions, and a specific issue to resolve regarding motion tracking.

General Questions:

1) I've had the best results so far using the CSRT tracker algorithm. What are the differences between 6 choices offered?

2) When I copy the tracking data from a video, and import it onto a picture I want to overlay onto the video, a dialogue box pops up with all sorts of settings. Is there info somewhere that explains what all these settings actually do?

Now my specific issue (which is probably related to question 2). After I overlay the picture onto the video, then size and place it using Transform, the overlaid picture will follow the motion tracking but won't retain it's size, which is what I need it to do. It tends to shrink down. Any thoughts on how to rectify this would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks in advance :)

this is a little compliacted.. if you want to MANUALLY enlarge the picture you have "first" to adapt various sizes at the clip adding keyframes of desired size (X,Y,SCALE) after importing X-Y keyframes the "scale" values are mainteined and the picture is moving X-Y by motion tracker data and increasing/decreasing size with "your" choices (made before the import)

if you want to change size automatically you have to select the desired area directly on motion tracker ... and after that use the "GEOMETRY" option when importing keyframes (this import also sizes of tracked area) if the algorithm you choice is able to identify also the size of the object.

on this OLD (and obsolete) tutorial i used the "manual" size method... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwCWaYoS74k&t=41s
(at the time motion tracking effect was not available)

at minute 2 of this video the "geometry" import is able to resize automatically a TEXT CLIP : https://youtu.be/u4NB-EcjQVo?list=PLsHp ... Tgne67hmtu
