Hello everyone,
I have been using kdenlive as an amateur (mostly for holiday films with friends and family) for a cpl of years and, today while making a xmas video memory, i realized that I have 'no motion tracking' effect.
I havent used it for a while even in the old versions and I am not sure whether I had it in the previous kdenlive 21.08.
I read about the dasiam algorithm and I understood that in order to work on kdenlive i had to follow these steps https://docs.kdenlive.org/en/effects_and_compositions/effect_groups/alpha_manipulation/motion_tracker.html?highlight=motion%20tracker#id2
First of all, I noticed that i didn't have a <$HOME/.local/share/kdenlive/opencvmodels> directory and I thougth, that's ok; i can create one. Moved all the AI models in the directory, restarted kdenlive and still shows no motion tracking effect.
I am on slackware current.
Is it deprecated? or changed name?
Am i missing something? Any advise is appreciated
Thanks

it works for me (21.12 version on linux/mageia 8 ), motion tracking effect can be found in "alpha, mask and keying" effects

Glad to hear and thank you for your feedback.
nevertheless, i confirm that on Slackware current, motion tracking effect is not installed.

I found a work around: if I launch the kdenlive.latest.appimage it seems to work so, I get the effect I need to do the job and then save it. When I reopen the project with the installed kdenlive.latest.version, it first reminds me that the effect is missing but the key-frames and timeline modifications stay.

I haven't tried to removepkg and reinstall it to see if it solves the problem but for now I can live with this little twitch.

Hello,

My Kdenlive version is v21.08.2 under Ubuntu 21.01. I do not have Motion Tracking in the menu list. What is the recommended approach to enable it, please? Thanks.

Kind regards.

P.S. The choices under Alpha, Mask and Keying are:
Alpha shapes (Mask), Alpha strobing, Alpha0ps, Alphagrad
Bluescreen0r
Chroma Key: Basic
Despill
Keyspillm0pup
Lumakey
Mask Apply, Mask0Mate
Obscure
Rotoscoping, Rotoscoping (mask)
Secondary Color Correction Area Selection (Mask), Select0r, Shape Alpha, Shape Alpha (Mask), Spillsupress, Spot Remover
Transparency

Install the latest version 21.12.0

Either include the kdenlive ppa or use the appimage version. If your distro doesn't provide the latest version I would always use the appimage. Simple to download, make executable and run it.

I'm using Ubuntu 20.04.3, added the PPA, and confirm motion tracking is NOT available but then added latest Appimage and motion tracking working fine. So at the moment I'm swinging between the two. No big deal but hope it gets sorted. I had a small quibble with motion tracking as I changed from a rectangle to ellipse; but it stayed rectangular. All I could see as a fix was to remove and start over. Surely this is not right. This is amazing software though, hats off to all the hard work of kdenlive devs.

I met the same problem when using extra/kdenlive package in Arch and found opencv (for motion tracking) is optional for it. I manually install opencv to fix it.
I suppose opencv should be a essential dependency, not optional.

Hello all,

I'm using Kubuntu 22.04 LTS and KDEnlive 22.12.2
Also in this actual version, it's not "Motion Tracking" available.

Is it permanent removed from KDEnlive?

Thanks for any useful hints.

Best Regards,
Kuno

Hi, I had the same issue with latest version (22.12.2) on OpenSUSE TW.
This version from standard OSS repository didn't have motion tracker. I also noticed that running "Run config wizard" didn't enable any hardware acceleration.
After I switched to the Flatpak version, these issues disappeared.

So either; download latest version from the website, or switch to the Flatpak version. These should work properly.

Best Regards
Bart.

Flatpak has issues, too, unfortunately. I am on Pop!_OS 22.04 which is based on Ubunto 22.04 and the flatpak didn't work. Installed by adding the kdenlive-stable ppa to it. But even that didn't solve all the issue so now I am alternating between appimage and the ppa version. Mostly I am using the appimage.
