I shot some video with a camera that kept changing the lighting by auto exposure. so, the footage changes from dark to light, etc. Is there any way to correct this so the flicker and changing exposure is removed so things look constant?

i think that a similar "effect" is not (yet) present on Kdenlive (and i think also on other opensource video editors)

You will have to correct the exposure manually using effects like (White Ballance, White Ballance (LMS space) or Exposure), every time the exposure changes.

To solve a similar problem I added a (Equaliz0r + Curves) into the Track Master.
will it work in your project? I don't know! But it worked for me.
