Hi,
I am using Kdenlive 20.12.3 on Debian. I want to add a blur effect on a particular area in my video clip frame. In my timeline, I fully zoom it from the bottom right corner. Now I move frame by frame. My desired starting frame is 00:02:08:16 and my desired ending frame is 00:02:10:20.I use the scissor tool or "x" and click on the frame 00:02:08:16 and the same thing scissor at the frame 00:02:10:20.
Now In my timeline, I click on the above-mentioned area. Under effects, I select "Obscure" and drag it to my desired frame area. With the mouse, I adjust my blur area and it's fine.

The problem is the effect "Obscure" is implemented in that area as well as the whole video clip. Please guide me that how can I add a blur effect on a certain portion of a video clip instead it implements on the whole video.

please see the image.

Hello gardenair,
usually what you have in mind works well.
But it is crucial where you insert the effect: In the cut clip in the timeline, or in the whole track.
Where exactly did you insert it?

Thanks "mickae" for your kind reply. Well, I implemented it only In the cut clip in the timeline.
but unfortunately, it is implemented on the whole track which is wrong.
I don't know where I am doing a mistake. Please guide me.

First, save the project and then save it under a new name xyz-test.kdenlive.
Then delete the effect from the track, if necessary also from the timeline, i.e. the cut clip.
You can practice inserting any clip.
It works like this: You click in "Effects" on the desired one, Obscure for example, and drag it to the place in the timeline where you want to have it. That is, to the place where the clip is cut.
This should work without problems. If not: Keep on asking, you'll manage.

Thanks for your guidance. Well, I just remove the effect and save it . Then I make a space between two clips. After that, I implemented the effect which was working only on that particular slice of the video clip.

In the images you posted there is the RED squared area of the effect ... not the effect itself. this area is visible when you have a focus on the effect on the effects-stack widget... i'm also concerned about these red areas (without any effect) displayed on project monitor, some year ago' i opened an "issue" requesting to hide the red area in project montior (outside the effect's clip) but i don't rememeber what happened.

so.. you proabably will see again on future this strange thing...

What a great luck for Kdenlive that bartoloni exists. You would certainly have earned 400 karmas, but unfortunately the allocation is very limited - what a pity.

Well, the RED squared area appears when we click " Project Monitor " there is an option "Showe/Hide edit mode". I have not worked a lot in kdenlive so I don't know much about Edit features. I should be thankful If you kindly guide me that what is its basic purpose. What I understand is, it is used when we are applying any Effect/Edit to our clip then it guides us to select our desired area.
Am I correct?

Have a look here, it could be that it doesn't work for you and for Linux in general, because there is a bug.

I think what bartoloni is trying to say is that there is a difference between what the project monitor shows (the frame the scrubber is on) and the red effect handler/box of the selected clip.
In the timeline you can select a clip and kdenlive will show the effects for that clip in the effects stack widget including the appropriate red edit handler/box. If you then move scrubber to a different frame the project monitor will of course show that frame.
This is confusing because an effect area is shown based on the selected clip that does not apply to the shown frame.
Unless your rendered video shows the area obscured in a frame where the effect is not applied, of course. Then it is a bug and you should report it.
My 2c and hope it helps.

Oh boy, this version is two years old. Any bug logged for versions older than one year are blissfully ignored.

I strongly suggest you upgrade to 22.12.0 which came out last Monday ;-)
