Clips with multiple audio streams

Fri Aug 02, 2013 4:40 pm
Hi

I have a number of AVI clips with one video stream and two stereo audio streams (i.e. four audio channels in total in two groups of two). When playing the clip with VLC for example I can switch between the audio streams but in Kdenlive I seem to only be able to access the first stream. Is it possible to extract/use the second stream somehow?

I am not sure, but you may have to demux the streams and import them as clips seperately to kdenlive.

Indeed, kdenlive seems to only handle the first audio track in a clip, and you need to use external tools like ffmpeg/avconv to extract the other streams.

Kdenlive also cannot handle audio tracks with more than two (stereo) channels (even if it shows more than two channels in the audio thumbnail), so if you want to add i.e. 5.1 surround sound to your video, you have to create it in for example Audacity (also a great tool) and add it to your rendered video with again tools like ffmpeg/avconv.

I could provide some experience and examples for this.

I see. Another item for the todo list then I guess :)
