Add Noise to Audio

Wed Feb 17, 2010 4:40 pm
Hi,

I would like to know whether it is possible to add noise to an audio track. I have videos with personal information which has to be masked. Muting the audio is not appropriate for me, because the videos have to be linguistically transcribed.

You can silence just a part of the audio track by using key frames. Or, you might be able to create distortion by applying the Sox Stretch effect and playing with the parameters. You might need to also apply gain to turn down the volume as some distortions are loud. To isolate the parts, you need to split the audio from the video and ungroup them. Then, razor around the areas you want to isolate so you can apply the effects to just those areas of interest.
