Using volume effect as a "mask"?

Thu Oct 28, 2010 8:55 am
Hi. I would like to know whether it is possible to separate the volume effect from the audio track to which it is applied and manage both separately. My practical problem is as follows: I am composing a short movie of a presentation with separately recorded explanations from a speaker, each explanation being 2 to 10 seconds long and imported as separate audio clips. There is background music whose volume is reduced when there is speech and is increased in the gaps. I want to explore with different music backgrounds and different placements for the background, but I do not want to have to redo all the volume management for every test. If I could decouple volume profile from the track it is applied to, that would be wonderful. Maybe there is some trick one could do I am not aware of. Or maybe I am just not looking at the right menu / options.

Any help will be very welcome!!

Cheers,
